The following is in response to a question I received, which secondarily lifted the subject of predestination, but primarily presented an inquisition which the title above emerged from...following is my reply:
==================================
It's really almost paradoxical in that fallable humanity needs salvation from the Infallible God of all creation, yet while the Infallable does the reaching and trying, the fallable does the pushing away and arrogant part of not submitting and reaching back when they're the one actually in need of salvation and not the Infallable One.
When humanity continues to push God away, they start a slow process of their consciences becoming "seared with hot irons" and "their foolish hearts become hardened" the Bible says.
Sadly, all the while, the Lord is still there with His hands outstretched but back to the subject of predestination; because God did not and does not, Himself cause someone to be lost, because of His mercy, He continues to reach to the lost while they continue to push Him away and let their hearts be overcome by lusts of the flesh and passions for the things of this world in essence making themselves unsavable.
That's the danger of people playing with holiness, playing with God's Spirit, playing with sin, playing with their walk with God because over time, it's not that God can't or wouldn't save them, but they put themselves in an unsavable condition because the Bible says "they would begin to believe a lie and be damned".
Once a person has pushed God away so long and so much that their hearts become hardened and their consciences are seared, their minds then go into a state of reprobation where they are in a place of rejection, disapproval and an unsaved condition with God, but because they've gone so far, become so calloused and their consciences are seared, many times they can even feel justified and right in their sin....at this point, it's not that God couldn't and doesn't want to save them but they've put themselves, their minds and spirit so far from God that they can't see the need for true salvation and what that entails... they become content to play the game and many times are the one that mock those trying to live Holy and righteous as the ones who are bound, not free, chained by all the does and don'ts, etc when in all actuality they are the one who have frustrated God's grace and mercy and as I noted, the Bible says they "have believed a lie and are damned."
It's a very sad place because they become walking dead men in an unsaved condition yet feel completely fine, free of condemnation or feeling conviction, which then makes them feel like all is well because God's Spirit no longer convicts them and they feel peaceful. Sadly, in this condition, they can even have a sensation of God's Spirit, which further obscures the gravity of the situation because many times they will reason that since they can pretty much still sense God's presence, then apparently God is fine with their lifestyle and choices, therefore they feel justified and right when sadly they have all but sentenced themselves to hell.
I've dealt with people like Saul.....Saul bypassed his man of God, Samuel and did things his way and was rebellious to God and Samuel....he got his mind and spirit so twisted he actually ended up visiting a witches house in Endor instead of getting to God's house and humbling Himself. He had pushed until even God was pushed aside to do as he pleased which caused him to be in an unsaved condition and his obstinance and persistence to do it his way, for all practical purposes, making him unsavable.
It's not, in a sense predestination, but more so a self-destinstion and self-destruction capacity that humanity assigns themselves to eternal destruction, for it is God Who gave His all, including His precious Blood, and gave us detailed instructions in His Word if we truly want to die to self, take up our cross and follow Him.
The Bible says "the wages of sin is death ".... Sadly, people end up self-destructing and killing their own souls because of their love for sin and this world and refusal to submit to God's holiness and take up His Cross and follow Him.
His grace and mercy is always there to save them if they want It but because of man's free will, many choose to walk the opposite way and sadly will end up facing God's full wrath because of their own decisions and self doing.
God never predestined them to get into this sad condition, in fact His Word tells us that He predestined all men unto repentance but because man loves sin and doesn't want to repent from it and becomes rebellious, by default they put themselves on a spiritual trajectory that opposes God and eventually leads their soul to God's wrath and eternal damnation by their own choices and doing.
